Southend Historical Information

Southend-on-Sea covers a seven-mile stretch of coastline encompassing several neighbouring towns. Based at the mouth of the Thames estuary, Southend is the nearest sandy beach to London. London is just under one hour away by rail. By road Southend can be reached on the A127 and the A13 heading into London both bypassing Basildon or off the A127 onto the A130 to Chelmsford.
